i do: emma + clay

i’m really not even sure how to begin this blog post! emma and her family have been in my life for as long as i can remember. her dad, john, married josh and me and we even built our house two doors down from emma’s childhood home. getting to be part of their day was so meaningful to me to the point where i got a little emotional more than once. it just brings me so much joy to capture meaningful photos for people, especially people i know on a personal level.

clay and emma met in ann arbor their freshman year at university of michigan as they shared a lot of mutual friends. they still share all those friends (as emma’s dad put it, “half the world is emma’s friend”) and emma has adopted clay’s friends as her own. their wedding was a huge ceremony of the joining of family and friends.

we began the day at the graduate hotel, which was seriously the most amazing place EVER for groomsmen portraits. after a beautiful, albeit steamy, ceremony we had a parade up to sava’s restaurant for the reception. sava’s holds a pretty important place for clay and emma. it was the site of their first (and subsequent) date and they even named their puppy “sava.”

emma and clay, you are two of the most thoughtful, caring, and sweet people i’ve had the pleasure of photographing. it means the world to me that i was finally able to photograph a “kahle wedding.” you both deserve all the happiness in the world.

getting to work with new vendors is always a joy. many thanks to these lovely people/places:
prep: the graduate hotel
ceremony: first congregational church
reception: sava’s restaurant
flowers: passionflower
cake: the jefferson market
bridal gown: jenny yoo
bridesmaid’s gowns: anthropologie
guy’s suits: the black tux
groom’s suit: macy’s
dj: dj danny d
hair/makeup: cristen harsh, encore studio
videography: nate rivard

so, #realtalk for a second. i get the allure of an all white bridal bouquet look. but. photographing a bride with a colorful bouquet is THE BOMB. i mean, look at that color!! i couldn’t get over it and could have snapped away all day. passionflower totally knocked it out of the park.

when your reception is only 3 blocks from your church, you walk and have a parade!

i love a groomsman who “gets it” and actually helps with a bride’s dress.

so toasts were great, all around, but i think caroline takes the cake for having a custom made “clay” doll created to complete emma’s childhood stuffed animal collection.

Fantastic job Meghan!! Great to have an extended family member and soon-to-be neighbor capture the wedding so beautifully. Thank you so much.
